About Me

“Green, adjective; supporting protection of the environment” “Guardian, noun; a person who protects or defends something” – Oxford Dictionary.

What is the Green Guardian Program?

The Green Guardian program has involved Tasmanian tourism operators in environmental protection and enhancement while still maintaining an exciting and luxurious travel experience. This is done through incorporating an element of conservational volunteering into their tours. The volunteer aspect of each Green Guardians tour makes up just one element in an entire tour, where visitors are given the choice to participate in voluntary conservational activities. These activities take only a small portion of time in comparison to the entire duration of the tour, thus encompassing the saying “every bit counts”!

The ability to participate in the protection of Tasmania’s unique environment is one of the central appeals of the program and due to the Green Guardian versatile nature there should be no difficulty finding a tour that suits everyone. Conservation activities are available for all ages and levels of mobility.

As we become increasingly aware of the environmental impacts we are having all around us, it is possible to put conservation at the forefront of our minds while still enjoying some of the most pristine, natural places on earth.

So what do you get when you combine all this? Volunteer tourism, or, as it has recently been coined; Voluntourism.
